David Ruffley has been the Member of Parliament for Bury St Edmunds since 1997. Since being elected, David has sat on the Public Administration Committee, the Treasury Select Committee and has been an Opposition Whip. David served as Shadow Minister for Welfare Reform between 2005 and 2007 and since 2007 has been the Shadow Minister for Police Reform.
Before entering Parliament David was a corporate finance lawyer at Clifford Chance. In 1991 he became Special Adviser to Kenneth Clarke when he was Secretary of State for Education and Science, then Home Secretary and finally Chancellor of the Exchequer from 1993 to 1996. He worked as strategic economic consultant to the Conservative Party in 1996-97.
