Lord Griffiths of Fforestfach taught at the London School of Economics, was Professor of Banking and Dean at the City University Business School, a director of the Bank of England, Head of the Prime Minister's Policy Unit (1985-1990).
He entered the House of Lords in 1991 and has served on various Select Committees including at present the Select Committee on Economic Affairs. Since 1991 he has been Vice Chairman of Goldman Sachs International. He has also been Chairman of Land Securities Trillium and Westminster Health Care, has served as a non-executive director on various company boards in the UK and US and between 1996 - 2009 was Chairman of the Archbishop of Canterbury's Lambeth Fund. For the Centre for Policy Studies he co-authored (with Jill Kirby) “What’s wrong with 50p” (2009).
