John Redwood began his political career urging privatisation on the Conservatives in opposition in the 1970s, from around the Centre for Policy Studies dinner table. He chaired a working group that designed various denationalisation proposals covering a wide range of industries. He subsequently became Margaret Thatcher's adviser and helped her set up the privatisation programme of the 1980s.
A Privy Counsellor, former cabinet Minister, former industrialist and Investment Director, today he authors www.johnredwood.com, a site setting out daily analysis of the economy and other issues, and acts as an adviser to the Conservative party on economic matters. He was a Distinguished fellow of All Souls College Oxford (non stipendiary) in 1972-1987 and again in 2003-2005. He is currently a Visiting Professor for the Middlesex University Business School and a company chairman.
