Medical groups ask government to tackle soaring negligence costs

Medical groups have written to the Justice Secretary, asking him to address the soaring cost of medical negligence claims, according to the BBC.

A 2017 report from the Centre for Policy Studies noted the rapidly increasing cost of medico-legal expenses, and the associated insurance, was driving GPs out of the NHS and putting patients at risk.

"The Medico-Legal Crisis and How to Solve It" by Dr Paul Goldsmith put forward a number of proposals to reduce costs, including capping the loss of earnings element of negligence pay-outs (perhaps to 3x salary as in Austria) and ensuring the financial award is paid directly to the body responsible for purchasing future care.

This is very relavant issue and needs to be addressed. The imbalance that was introduced to this market with the “no win no pay” system can destroy private medicine. Lets find market oriented solution to this problem.
