The countryside is not a religion, we must build more homes

"Nigel Lawson once claimed that the NHS was the closest thing the English have to a religion. But the green belt surely runs it a close second", says Robert Colvile in a column for The Telegraph, Sunday 6 October.

However, the houing crisis is pushing voters to reconsider. Polling released by the Centre for Policy Studies shows "voters of every age, social class and political persuasion now support more homes being built in their area" and politicians must do something to stem the collapse of home ownership in Britain.

Robert Colvile urges the Government to do more to promote housing developments which provide "greater community benefits" in order to increase the number of new homes being built across the country.
