Managing not to Manage: Management in the NHS

You are lying on a trolley in casualty. You have been lying there a long time. You are in pain and in shock. Your well-organised life is in chaos. You are stripped of control. You are being treated like an imbecile and are called by your Christian name. You cannot use your mobile phone or reach the outside world. You have just discovered the indignity of a bedpan. For the first time since you were a baby, you are powerless and dependent.
